Authorization bill
An act of congress that allows certain acts of congress to pass certain bills.
Budget
A set limit on the amount of money you plan on spending
Appropriations bill
A bill passed every year to fund certain programs
Budget resolution
A bill setting limits on expenditures based on revenue
Deficit
gov’t spending over spending on federal revenues
Expenditures
Government spending (such as senior programs and defense)
Revenues
Financial resources the government uses
Income tax
Money taken away from people for the gov’t
16th Amendment
This allowed congress to have income taxes
National debt
The total amount of money borrowed by the U.S. Over the years.
Tax expenditures
Revenue losses that are caused by special things by the federal tax law
Social Security Act
(1935) a law passed to provide a minimal level of sustenance to older Americans and prevent proverty
Medicare
A program added to the Social Security
Incrementalism
Budget with a small increase just in case
