Group
Two or more interacting and interdependent individuals who come together to achieve specific goals.
Formal Group
Work groups established by the organisation that have designated work assignments and specific tasks directed at accomplishing organisational goals.
EG. Command, Cross Functional, Self Managed, Task Forces
Informal Group
Groups of social nature that arise in the organisation out of a need of social contact.
EG. Yacht Club, Coffee Group
Task Force
(Formal Group)
Temporary group formed for specific task, disbanded after completion.
Cross Functional Team
(Formal Group)
A collection of people from various disciplines in order to come up with comprehensive solutions for operational problems.
Command Group
(Formal Group)
Determined by formal authority and depicted on organisational chart, they typically include manager and subordinates reporting to them.
Self-Managed Teams
(Formal Group)
Independent groups that take on traditional management roles in addition to their operating roles.
Work Team
A group whose members work intensely on a specific, common goal, using their positive synergy, individual and mutual accountability and complementary skills.
