Chapter 13 Flashcards
2 stage compressor
Consists of an intake, first stage compressor, inter cooler, second stage compressor
Uses less energy than an equivalent one stage
Most common toe of positive displacement compressor
Piston or reciprocating Compressor
The screw compressor is another type but less common
Two types of screw compressors
Dry
Oil flooded
Single stage compressor
Limit is 150 psi
Not effective for high pressure situation due to the large amount of heat generated
Don’t think that a angle stage with two separate compression cylinders is a two stage
Before servicing a compressor
Turn off compressor drive
Always wear
Safety goggles
Keep air intake
Well ventilated
Lock and tag each vent
OPEN
If they are closed a sudden pressure loss will create a vacuum and can cause collapses
Do not touch
Pressurized air lines or components
Also wear
Hearing protection
All compressors have
Intake filter element
Air preparation package
Air distribution package
Two types of valves
Poppet type
Sliding or shear action type valve
Who is responsible for standardizing pneumatic symbols $
ANSI
Why should thence be locked in the open position when working on a pressurize system $
Because closed Vince and a sudden repressurization can cause a vacuum and collapse sensitive components
What is the practical pressure limit for single stage $
150 psi
