Chapter 13 Flashcards
Label the transcribed gene in the direction synthesized by RNA polymerase
promoter, methyl cap, 5’ end, initiation, stop, 3’ end, terminator, poly a tail
What is a holoenzyme?
sigma plus the subunits, needed for initiation but falls off at elongation
Does RNA polymerase need a primer?
no
What is RHO dependent transcription?
inverted complementary sequence plus the RHO enzyme, the RHO enzyme will catch up to the loop and break
What is intrinsic transcription?
Inverted complementary sequence + string of a sequence, hairpin loop forms and physically dissociated RNA polymerase
What causes overlapping genes?
transcription and translation occurring at the same time
What do enhancers and silencers do?
enhancers increase transcription, silencers decrease transcription
