To whom does data protection legislation apply?
Anyone who possesses personal data other than for domestic use.
Is anonymous data covered under the legislation?
No. It is no longer attributable to any person.
Are international data transfers covered under the legislation?
Yes. it covers data transferred from the UK outside the EU to third countries or international organisations.
Where are data breaches notified?
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)
Can data be transferred outside the EEA?
Only if the country has adequate levels of protection for personal data.
What is the exception to the rule concerning disclosure of personal information?
If it is to comply with money laundering regulations.
What does the Computer Misuse Act 1990 make illegal?
Hacking into or modifying personal data on computers.
What is the Internet of Things?
The idea that physical devices can be controlled remotely to reduce claims. E.g. remotely shutting off a water supply to prevent water damage.
What is a data protection impact assessment?
A review of the necessity and proportionality of information, the risks, and the measures to address these risks.
