What is occupational segregation?
historical segregation of woman into a small number of occupations such as clerical, sales, nursing and teaching
Stats on men working
6% more hours per week, after 6 weeks, woman work 30% less than men
What is job-to-job method?
method of comparing pay for male and female dominated job classes
Proportional value/wage line method?
method of comparing pay for male and female dominated job classes - no comparison for female classes so use male wage line
Proxy comparison method
pay equity cant be achieved so female classes are compared to similar female classes (controversial)
Unions make changes on wages?
Yes they do, workers earn 10% more in union workplaces
Spill over effect
employers seeking to avoid unionization offer workers the wages, benefits and working conditions that would be in union workplaces
