What is a pay-for-performance-plan?
a pay plan that links individual pay to some measure of performance on the job
What does employee performance depend on?
F(AME) A- Ability, M- Motivation to learn, E- Supportive envionment
Motivation
Process in determining what is important to a person, and offering in exchange for desired bahaviour
Agency theory
Both staff and managers will act opportunistically to obtain the most favorable exchange possible
What is a total rewards system?
all financial and non-financial rewards provided by organizations to their employees
What is merit pay
wage increase granted to employee as function of assessment of employee performance
What is a limp sum bonus
A one time bonus added onto base pay
What is gain sharing?
not from financial performance of org - instead linked to cost index aka labor costs or utility cost
What is alternative ranking?
ranking best employee than worst, then best and then worst etc
paired comparison performance ranking
ranking each employee against all employees one pair at a time
What is MBO (management by objective)
performance rating method based on meeting objectives set at beginning of the performance review period
