Triple Alliance
The German chancellor Bismark arranged several alliances with other great powers to isolate France so it couldn’t take revenge on Germany.
Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy were in this alliance.
Two Power Standard
A policy for the British navy to have as much warships as the next two largest navy powers combined.
Ex: if french had 10 warships and Germany had 10 warships, British would have at least 20

A secret agreement (alliance) among the emperors of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Russia.
Dual Alliance
A defensive alliance between Germany and Austria-Hungary put in place to prevent war by Bismark
Reinsurance treaty
A secret treaty between Germany and Russia made by Bismark that was made after the three emperors league collapsed.
Made to isolate France.
Entente Cardinal
Means friendly understanding.
Series of agreements between Britain and France, marking the start of an alliance against Germany and Austria-Hungary
Triple Entente
An alliance linking Russia, France, and Britain after the signing of an Anglo-Russian Entente

The assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand and his wife while driving their car in Sarajevo.
