The degree to which morality is central to self-concept.
Postconventional Level
Morality is defined by abstract universal principles.
Conventional Level
Conformity to laws and rules is necessary to ensure positive relationships and societal order.
Preconventional Level
Morality is extremely controlled and actions are judged by their consequences.
Gender Intensification
Gender stereotyping of attitudes and behavior increases, and movement toward a more traditional gender identity.
Ethnic Identity
A sense of ethnic group membership and attitudes and feeling associated with that membership.
Acculturative Stress
Psychological distress resulting from conflict between the minority and the host culture.
Bicultural Identity
By exploring and adopting values from both the adolescent’s subculture and the dominant culture.
Autonomy
A sense of one-self as a separate, self-governing individual becomes a salient task.
Cliques
Groups of about 5 to 7 members who are friends usually resemble one another in family background, attitudes and beliefs.
Crowds
A larger more loosely organized group made up of several cliques with similar values.
