Chapter 1.2 Flashcards
Interaction of Function, Materials, Processes and Shape
Material - What material is made of
Function - How material works
Shape - Shape of the material
Processes - How easy it is to manufacture
What would be the design objectives for a company?
- To create profit for the company
- To create a product that will enhance the lifestyle of humans beings
- To achieve sustainable development of the whole product life cycle
What are the goals of SE Design?
Create products that meet the needs of today in an equitable fashion while maintaining healthy ecosystems and without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their resource needs.
In a close loop flow of materials, how can waste become a feedstock?
- Reuse
- Remanufacture
- Recycling / downcycling
- Transformation via biochemical processes
In which model materials remain a valued asset to be conserved for reuse
Circular Model
Reduce
Decreasing the amount of material, energy and other resources used to create raw material and reducing the weight of materials used in products.
Use and Re-use
Using an object or material again, either for its original purpose, without simnifically altering the physical form of the object or material.
Re - manufacture
The process of restoring durable used materials or products to as - new conditions
Re - cycling
Recovering materials for their original or for other purposes at the end of they useful life.
