Chapter 12 Flashcards
Statics
The branch of mechanics that studies an object or body’s state of constant, unchanged motion.
Dynamics
A branch of mechanics that studies the changes in the motion of objects or bodies as a result of the actions of forces.
-Stability-
The three point stance has the effect of lowering the football player’s centre of mass, which provides more stability.
-Production of maximum force-
A young T-ball player will often stand very upright, with feet planted, and swing the bat using only the arms to make contact with the ball.
-Production of maximum velocity-
A proficient golfer relies on a precisely sequenced swing, integrating leg, hip, and arm action to produce a slower, more controlled swing of the club.
-The impulse momentum-
By applying a large impulse, a hitter can strike the ball so that it leaves the bat with more velocity.
-Direction of force application-
A soccer player will push his or her foot against the ground to make a change in direction away from the opponent.
-Production of angular motion-
Throwing a curve in baseball.
-Conservation of angular momentum-
Divers in a state of free fall
