What is an ego identity?
Sense of who one is and what one stands for that occurs in adolescents (facing choices about the future, religious beliefs, political beliefs, etc)
What is psychological moratorium?
When adolescents experiment with different roles, values, beliefs, and relationships - undergoing some kind of identity crisis
Children before highschool most likely experience which two identity statuses?
Diffusion or foreclosure
Adolescents during highschool most likely experience which identity statuses?
Moratorium or Achievement
What is identity achievement?
Most developed in terms of identity, experienced a period of exploration, has a sense of personal well-being, high self-esteem, and self-acceptance
What is moratorium?
One is actively exploring alternatives, attempts to make choices with regard to occupation, ideological beliefs, etc
What is foreclosure?
Has commitments without considering alternatives, these commitments are based on identifications with parents, teachers or other authority figures
What is identity diffusion?
Least developed in identity sense, lacks commitment and does not try to form any commitments
Adolescent friendships are more likely to stress:
