Chapter 11.3 Flashcards
Incomplete Dominance
neither allele is completely dominant over the other, blending of traits in the heterozygous
Example: white and red flowers in parent generation having a pink offspring
Codominance
both alleles in the heterozygous genotype are expressed in the phenotype.
Example: white feather and black feather parent generation having a speckled offspring
Multiple Alleles
genes having more than two forms of the same gene.
Example: Four different coat colors in rabbits
Polygenic Traits
controlled by the interaction of two or more genes and exhibit a wide range of phenotypes
What are some exceptions to Mendel’s Principles?
some alleles are neither dominant or recessive (incomplete dominance)
Many genes exist in several different forms (multiple alleles)
Many traits are produced by the interaction of several genes (polygenic traits)
Does the environment have a role in how genes determine traits?
Environmental conditions can affect gene expression and influence genetically determined traits
