Patriots people in the American colonies who wanted the colonists to break away from Great Britain. Such people favored independence for the colonies

People in American colonies who wanted the colonies to remain under the control of the king and Great Britain. Loyalists were loyal to the king and opposed independence

American colonies who did not support either side (loyalists and patriots) in the fight for independence from Great Britain.
