ATTRIBUTION ERROR
Judge people based on who they are rather than the circumstances they are in

Being with others improves our performance but can hurt performance if task is too hard (social disruption)

Socials comparison theory- we compare our beliefs, abilities, and reactions with others.
CONFORMITY
change in behavior by group pressure

75% of subjects go along with group answers even when they are wrong
Deindividuation
Losing our identity can cause change in behavior
GROUP THINK
tend to agree with group decision at the expense of critical thinking (challenger explosion)

People who have devotion to a single cause
Stanley milligram study- sources of destructive obedience
The power of authority is greater than anyone imagined- (subjects were given a shock of they gave the wrong answer)
Bystander apathy ( why we don’t help others)
A group is less likely to help than a single person
Social loafing
Individuals become less productive In a group compared to working alone
Pro social behavior and altruism
Helping others for unselfish reasons and relieving the distress of others
Aggression
Behavior intended to hurt others physically or verbally
Cognitive dissonance
Mental tension when we have two conflicting thoughts or beliefs; we try to reduce or eliminate tension
Attitude
A belief that has an emotional component; attitudes are not a good predictor of behavior although attitudes can predict behavior relatively well when they come to mind easily
