Chapter 11 - Lipid And AA Metabolism Flashcards
Where are lipids broken down?
Small intestine
What is a lipoprotein ?
Transport triacylglycerol and cholestérol
How are lipoproteins named?
According to their protein density
Chylomicrons: least dense
VLDL
IDL L intermediate
LDL low density
HDL High density
What do chylomicrons transport?
Triacylgrlycerols, cholesterol, cholesterol esters
VLDL transport what?
Triacylglycerols and FAs from liver to tissues
LDL function
Deliver cholesterol to cells
What is an apoprotein?
Receptor molecules involved in signalling
What are the four steps of beta oxidation?
1) ox of FA to form double bond
2) hydration of double bond to form an OH group
3) ox of hydroxyl group to form a carbonyl
(B-ketoacid)
4) Splitting of the B-ketoacid into a shorter acyl-CoA and Acetyl-CoA
