Surface tension
A
Caused by molecules at the surface being closely packed making them denser than the inner molecules. Due to net inward force(no molecules above them) this is why water “beads”

In a small tube the adhesive forces between the liquid and the wall will increase surface tension which reduces surface area, pulling the liquid up the tube.
