Chapter 11 Flashcards
Task bar
The taskbar is the bar that commonly runs across the bottom of the screen. The taskbar holds buttons that represent applications or files currently loaded into the computer memory.
OS Operating System
an OS, is software that coordinates the interaction between hardware and any software applications, as well as the interaction between a user and the computer. Examples of operating systems include Apple’s Mac OS X and iOS; Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8; and the different types of Unix/Linux, such as Sun Solaris, Red Hat, SUSE, Google Chrome OS, and Android. One advantage of Linux-based open source operating systems such as Android is that the code that makes up the operating system is open to view and improve upon or change. This sometimes allows for more community-driven features that are not as easily changed in closed source or proprietary software such as Windows or OS X.
The control panel
Start button option allows computer configuration, such as adding software, removing software, adding hardware, removing hardware, adjusting the monitor settings, configuring a screen saver, and configuring the mouse for a left-handed person.
