Chapter 11 Flashcards
What is a boson
Force carrying subatomic particle, integer spin, 4 of them make up the fundamental forces and Higgs gives mass
Fermion
Normal particles, half integer spin, made up of leptons, hadrons and quarks
Leptons
Elementary particles such as tau, muon, electron and their neutrinos
Quarks
Elementary particles that combine to make matter, 6 other them (u, d, s, c, t, b),
Hadrons
Subatomic particles made of quarks
Baryons
Particles made up of 3 quarks
Meson
A particle made up of a quark and antiquark
Colour in Baryons and anti baryons
Must have red, blue and green in baryons
Must have antired, antiblue and antigreen in anti-baryons
Colour in Mesons
Must be a matching pair (eg green and anti green) for all 3 colours
Why can two quarks be found in the same quantum state
Can have different colours so Pauli exclusion principle is not violated
What is beta decay
When a neutron decays into an electron, proton and electron neutrino
State Hubbles law
The farther a stellar object is, the faster it is moving away from earth
Hubble law equation
v = H0*D
List the hierarchy of subatomic particles
Fermions, leptons and (hadrons), (Mesons and Baryons)
How do linac accelerators work
Having positively and natively charged tubes after one another to give the particle a push and pull effect
