Chapter 10: Troubleshooting WAN Flashcards
Learning to analyze and troubleshoot Wide Area Network.
List the steps of documenting network.
• Document the network
- Network (configuration files, physical/logical topology, baseline performance levels, type of devices/model, IOS image version, network device hostnames, location of device, module slots if present)
- End devices (device name, OS and OS version, network addressing, GW/DNS, high bandwidth applications used on the end system)
• Network topology (physical/logical, device type, manufacturer, OS, cable type and ID)
• Establish Network Baseline (used to establish normal network reference, typically performed during normal operations)
• Measure Data (ping, traceroute speeds, manual data collection [upload/download])
List the steps of troubleshooting steps.
- Gather symptoms (question end user, see if it can be reproduced)
- Isolate the problem (use OSI layer models with different approaches top-bottom, bottom-top, divide-and-conquer)
- Implement corrections
- Check if problem is fixed
