ablation
a procedure to treat atrial fibrillation. It uses small burns or freezes to cause some scarring on the inside of the heart to help break up the electrical signals that cause irregular heartbeats.
acute renal failure
Acute kidney failure is most common in people who are already hospitalized, particularly in critically ill people who need intensive care.
anuria
failure of the kidneys to produce urine.
benign prostatic hyperplasia
often occurs with the second growth phase. As the prostate enlarges, the gland presses against and pinches the urethra.
chronic kidney disease
condition in which the kidneys are damaged and cannot filter blood as well as they should.
cystitis
infection of the lower urinary tract, or more specifically, the urinary bladder
cystocele
a condition in which supportive tissues around the bladder and vaginal wall weaken and stretch, allowing the bladder and vaginal wall to fall into the vaginal canal
cysstolith
a calcium carbonate concretion arising from the cellulose wall of cells of higher plants
cystoscopy
a procedure that allows your doctor to examine the lining of your bladder and the tube that carries urine out of your body (urethra).
dialysis
treatment to clean your blood when your kidneys are not able to. It helps your body remove waste and extra fluids in your blood.
diuresis
increased urine flow rate as well as increased urine flow/output
dysuria
painful or difficult urination.
ectopic kidney
a kidney located below, above, or on the opposite side of the kidney’s normal position in the urinary tract.
edema
swelling caused by a collection of fluid in the spaces that surround the body’s tissues and organs.
end stage renal disease
occurs when the kidneys are no longer able to work at a level needed for day-to-day life
