Herb - Echinacea
Interacts with: Amiodarone, anabolic steroids, ketoconazole, methotrexate
Effects: Possible increased hepatotoxicity
Herb- Feverfew
Interacts with: Aspirin and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), heparin, warfarin (Coumadin)
Effects: Increased Bleeding risk
Herb: Garlic
Interacts with: Aspirin and other NSAIDs, warfin insulin, oral hypoglycemic agents.
Effects: Increased bleeding risk, additive hypoglycemic effect.
Herb: Ginger
Interacts with: Aspirin and other NSAIDs, heparin, warfarin
Effects: Increased bleeding risk
Herb: Ginkgo
Interacts With: Anticonvulsants, Aspirin, NSAIDs, Heparin, warfarin, tricyclic antidepressants.
Effects: Possible decreased anticonvulsant effectiveness, increased bleeding potential, possible decreased seizure threshold
Herb: Ginseng
Interacts with: CNS depressants, Digoxin (Lanoxin), Diuretics, insulin and oral hypoglycemic agents, warfarin
Effects: Increased sedation, increased toxicity, possible decreased diuretic effects, increased hypoglycemic effects, decreased anticoagulant effects.
Herb: Goldenseal
Interacts with: Diuretics
Effects: May decrease diuretic effects
Herb: St. John’s Wort
Interacts with: CNS depressants and opioid analgesics, Cyclosporine (Sandimmune), Efavirenz, indinavir, protease inhibitors, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, warfarin
Effects; Increased sedation, May decrease cyclosporine levels, decreased antiretroviral activity, decreased antiretroviral activity of indinavir, possible serotonin syndrome, decreased anticoagulant effects.
Herb: Valerian
Interacts with: barbiturates, benzodiazepines, and other centralnervous system (CNS) depressants
Effects: Increased sedation.
