Issues and choices in prototyping: improving the traditional Model Through “Best Practice”
Evidence from a variety of industries suggest four “Best Practices” that apply to any firm and any prototyping cycle.
Low-Cost Prototypes: Simple industrial design models (form and shape), computer aided Engineering and simulation are less expensive It is necessary to make a better use of these classes of models and squeeze all its potential. Sometimes it is nesary to outsource some prototypes.
Prototyping Process Quality: Improve reliability and learning that occur in each prototype cycle. Avoid mistakes, (misreading a drawing, reversing and overlay, or failing to check a material before using it)
Timing and Sequence: When prototype cycles are overlapping people lost track of the progress of the project.
Building Knowledge. Continually improving the quality, speed and efficiency of the prototyping process, and strengthening prototyping’s repetitiveness and its ability to capture critical problem at each stage of the development.
Dimensions of Choice in Prototyping
Who build the prototype is a major issue during the life of the developing project, Everything is Synthetized in the Exhibit 10-6
