chapter 10:photosynthesis Flashcards
Identify examples of autotrophs and whether they are considered producers or consumers
are producers.
They generate their own food for energy.
EX) plants
Identify examples of heterotrophs, and whether they are considered producers or consumers
are consumers.
They cannot produce their own food for energy, so they rely on other organisms or animal.
Ex). Animals
Identify examples of photoautotrophs and whether they are considered producers or consumers
are producers.
Photoautotrophs orginisms USE light to generate their own food for energy.
Ex). Other Plants, Algae
Explain light reaction stages of photosynthesis
Occurs in the THYLAKOIDS, converts light into energy to chemical energy.
Water splits, generates into ATP and NADPH to power Calvin cycle.
Explain Calvin cycle stages of photosynthesis
Occurs in the STROMA,
The fixation of C02 using ATP and NADPH from light reaction produces sugar.
What’s the process of C3 photosynthesis including the benefits
Carbon dioxide is fixed into a three-carbon compound during the Calvin Cycle.
Works well under moderate light and temperature conditions.
What’s the process of C4 photosynthesis including the benefits of each
Spital seperation
fixation mesophyll, but Calvin occurs in bundle-sheath.
More efficient in hot and dry conditions
What’s the process of CAM photosynthesis including the benefits of each
Temporal Seperation
the STROMA, opens at night allowing C02 fixations. Then C02 is released when there’s sunlight.
