Q

What is a manipulation check?

A
  • An extra DV that helps validate (check) the measure
  • To make sure you’re affecting what you want
  • Ex. Making sure a stress paradigm is increasing stress by validating with corticosterone levels

Q

What is external validity?

A
  • The hardest for experiemental work because lab settings are artificial, so generalizing to other people is hard
  • Labs often use convenience sampling, such as college students who are: 18-22 yo, smarter than average, more money, etc… so is this truly generalizable

can replicate with similar experiments + stimuli to help counteract

Q

What is statistical validity?

A
  • For determining how large the effect is, and how big is the difference between the groups
  • To measure, you look at data/stats
  • Calculate effect size (d). Large d=large effect size.
  • Confidence interval: 95% conrident we get a score in this range (if the effect is true). Shows the effect is real and meaningful
