Chapter 10 Flashcards
Statistic
Describes a sample (A class representing the whole of UWF)
Parameter
Describes a population (The U.S. Census)
Sampling error
The error caused by observing a sample instead of the whole population.
Non-sampling error
Any error, whether systemic or random, that results in an error in the representation of the population
How do we minimize sampling errors?
Get a larger sample. As the sample size increases, the possibility of error decreases because the sample becomes closer to the actual population size
Mean
Regular meaning of “average”: In our research, this value was found to be a great average of our findings
Mode
Most often: In our research, this value showed up most often in our findings
Median
Middle value: In our research, we found this value to be in the middle of the figures we received
