Q

what is a reducer hose fitting

A

used to connect a smaller diameter hose to a large one

19
Q

what is overhaul

A

firefighters enter the structure after the fire is out to ensure no chance for re-ignition. also to search for fatalities or other damages

20
Q

what are 4 tools used during overhaul

A

pike poles
axes
prying tools
power saws
drills
screwdrivers
shovels
thermal imager

21
Q

what should firefighters continue to do during overhaul

be aware
wear ppe at all times
watch for danger

22
Q

do you NEED to have a charged hose line while doing overhaul

A

yes absolute need

23
Q

where does overhaul typically begin?

A

at the most severe fire involvement. so start at where the fire was

24
Q

what is the area of origin

A

general location where the fire began. don’t touch this area in case the fire leads to legal issues

25
Q

what are some signs of arson

A

wind direction and velocity
doors or windows locked or unlocked
location of the fire
containers or cans
burglary tools
familiar faces
unusual orders
incendiary devices

involves closing doors between the fire and the unaffected area

no smell
methane

rises in the air
difficult to detect without instruments

31
Q

LPG- Liquified Petroleum gas

A

also known as propane
1 and 1/2 times as heavy as air
so it will sink
concentration between 2/9.5%

32
Q

Can firefighters turn off gas and electricity to a house or building?

A

yes we can but not completely. we can shut off the main breaker and valve. it will never fully be off until the city turns it off from the street to the house but we shut off from right up to the house and the whole house. NEVER EVER EVER turn it back on after the fires out. house will go boom.

33
Q

do you need to wear full ppe to a car fire. need to wear a mask?

A

yes, cars generate a wide variety of toxic smoke and vapor’s. treat it as a structure fire

34
Q

what should you do before starting extinguishing or using JAWS.
name an example

A

isolate the vehicle from any ignition source.
key fob

35
Q

where do you position yourself at a vehicle fire attack? where do you attack from?

A

position hose line between burning vehicle and exposures
position uphill and upwind of the fire
attack at a 45-degree angle

36
Q

what type fire is a vehicle fire?
