biodiversity
short for “biological diversity”, usually refers to the number of different species in a given area.
gene
a piece of DNA that codes for a specific trait that can be inherit by an organism,s offspring.
keystone species
species that are critical to the functioning of an ecosystem.
ecoturism
a form of tourism that supports the conservation and sustainable development of ecologically unique areas.
endangered species
a species that is likely to become extinct if protective measures are not taken immediately.
threatened species
a species that has a declining population and that is likely to become endangered if it is not protected.
exotic species
a species that is not native to a particular region.
poaching
the illegal capturing of wild animals, usually associated with land use rights.
endemic species
species that are native to and found only within a limited area.
germ plasm
any form of genetic material such as that contained within reproductive, or germ, cells of animals and plants
endangered species act
a law descended to protect plant and animals species in danger of extinction.
habitat conservation plan
a plan that attempts to protect one or more species across large area of land through trade-off or cooperative agreements.
biodiversity treaty
a treaty who goal is to preserve biodiversity and ensure the sustainable and fair use of genetic resources in all countries.
