What are the basic functions of an information system?
Input, processing, output, feedback
What are the basic components of an information system?
Hardware, software, data, networking, procedures, people
Define input
Data and information about business transactions are captured or collected by input devices
Define an information system
An information system collects, processes, stores, analyses and distributed information for a specific purpose or objective
Define processing
Data is transformed, converted, and analyzed for storage or transfer to an output device.
Define feedback
A feedback mechanism monitors and controls operations.
Define hardware
A set of devices such as processor, monitor, keyboard, printer
Define software
A set of apps that instruct the hardware to process data or other inputs such as voice commands
Define data
Data is an essential part processed by the system and if needed stored in a database or other storage system.
Define network
A telecommunication system connecting hardware that is wired wireless or combination
Define procedures
Set of instructions about how to combine the above components in order to process information and generate the desired output
Define people
People are individuals who work with the system interface with it or use its output
Define output
Data, information, reports, etc are distributed to digital screens or hardcopy, sent as audio or transferred to other ISs via communication networks.
