Chapter 1- SG Flashcards
1
Q
Behavioral Objectives-Background
A
- Writing behavioral objectives requires the clinician to make specific decisions prior to therapy
- Robert Mager (1984) “Preparing Instructional Objectives”
- Donald Mowrer (1988) “Methods of Modifying Speech Behaviors”
- When you write a behavioral objective you have pretty much planned your session
2
Q
Importance of clearly defined behavioral objectives:
A
Provides a basis for selecting:
- Materials
- Content
- Procedures
Provides a means to determine client accomplishment/success
- Success can only occur if both client and clinician know the desired result
Enables the client to meaningfully participate
- The client must know the nature of the task and its goal
3
Q
Clearly written objectives ensure effective therapy
A
In this process YOU MUST-
- Look beyond the obvious problems
- Analyze all data collected during assessments
- Synthesize those data
- Formulate an informal opinion
4
Q
Three Components of Behavioral Objectives
A
- Performance – What they are able to do.
- Condition – How the performance will be done (spontaneous conversation)
- Criterion – How well the learner is expected to perform
5
Q
- Performance Component
A
- The “verb” component
- States what the client/learner is expected to DO in order to demonstrate mastery
- Key questions – “What must the learner DO to demonstrate achievement of the objective?” (Mager)
—- “Can I count it?” (Mowrer)
