What is Health?

Health
State of complete physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being.
Wellness
process of adopting patterns of behavior that can lead to improved health and heightened life satisfaction
Chromosome
are made of tightly coiled molecules of DNA
DNA
consists of long strands of paired nucleotides arranged in a double helix.
Differentiation
The process by which an unspecialized cell divides and gives rise to a specialized cell
Stem cell
an undifferentiated cell that is capable of giving rise to different types of specialized cells.
Mutation
Alteration in the DNA sequence of a gene ( cancer v. Sickle-cell anemia.
Allele
Alternate forms of genes. May be either dominant or recessive.

Theories of behavior change
Health Belief Model, Transtheoretical Model
Trastheoretical Model
Precontemplation; No thinking of making a change
Contemplation: thinking of making a change within 6 months.
Preparation; Planning for behavior change and set a start date.
Action: making a behavior change
Maintenance: maintain a behavior over a year.
Termination: made the change completely or more than a year.
Determinants of Health
Gender, Culture, Economy, Social environment, education, biology and Genetics, health services & social services, healthy child development, employment & working conditions.
Scientific Method
Make an observation» ask a question» Form a hypothesis» Conduct an experiment» Accept hypothesis» Reject hypothesis» form a hypothesis.
