What does “nicht” mean?
Wherever it appears, “nicht” means “not.”
- Er kennt dieses Buch nicht - He does not know this book.
- Das ist nicht nötig. - That is not necessary.
What does “kein” mean?
“Kein” negates the noun which follows.
It is a determiner and is inflected as an “ein” word:
- Er kennt kein Buch von diesem Author. - He knows know book by this author.
- Sie brauchen keine Rede zu halten. - You need make not speech.
What does an English “P” sometimes correspond to in German?
