What are the three forms of power?
Persuasion, Legal Coercion, Illegal Coercion.
What is Power?
Causing another person or people to act in a desired manner.
What is politics?
Non-violent process of settling disputed questions that is legitimate for the parties involved.
What is John Locke’s “State of Nature”?
The idea that food, shelter and clothing is taken care of until the “strong man” shows up and takes your liberties with no outcome.
What is the Magna Carta?
Established 1215. King John was trying to raise taxes to get revenue for military spending.
What did the Magna Carta accomplish?
Marked the beginning of limited self government in the English tradition. Established the principle of consent for taxation. Established a mechanism for the taxpayers to give their consent.
