The physical examination of urine consists of?
Assessing the volume, observing the color and clarity and nothing any odor.
What is the preferred volume for urine collection?
30mL.
A minimum volume of urine for testing is?
10mL (about 2 teaspoons).
With an amount less than 10mL is know as?
QNS (quantity not sufficient).
When a patient gives an amount less than 10mL what should be noted in the patient’s record?
That there may not be enough urine to complete the testing.
What does the urine will provide information about?
The concentration of the specimen.
What does the Orange to amber indicates?
Concentrated urine and can mean that the body isn’t getting enough water.
What does a Clear specimen indicates?
Diluted urine and means the individual is drinking a lot of water.
What is the normal urine specimen of a well-hydrated individual is?
Pale yellow.
The clarity of urine is not significant by itself but?
May be helpful when included with the rest of urinalysis information.
Clarity of urine is usually recorded as?
Clear, hazy, cloudy or turbid (very cloudy)
Does urine have a strong smell?
Usually not.
The strong smell of ammonia or other unusual odors should be?
Noted.
The Specific Gravity of urine is a measurement of?
The density of urine.
What are the relative proportions of dissolved solids are in relationship to the total volume of the specimen?
Salts, minerals and others.
