Chapter 1: Pharmacodynamics Flashcards
What are the two perspectives that Pharmacology looks at how drugs work?
Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics.
What is Pharmacodynamics?
The study of the effects drugs have on the body.
What is Agonist?
A drug that binds to a receptor site and stimulates a response or action.
What is Antagonist?
A drugs that binds to a receptor site and blocks the response.
What is Synergistic?
Drugs that enhance the effects of the other drugs, thereby producing a combined greater effect.
What is Additive?
Adding each drug’s effect to the other.
What is Local Action?
The drug primarily acts on the area to which it was administered.
What is Systemic Action?
