What is a Primary market?
When securities are sold by companies and government for the first time. As well as IPO’s
What is a Secondary market?
The exchange of stocks from investor to investor. The issuer does not receive funds, only in the initial issuing of shares does the company receive proceeds.
What is the “bid”?
The highest price a buyer is willing to pay for a security.
What is the “ask”?
The lowest price a seller is willing to accept.
What is the “spread”?
The difference between the bid and the ask.
What is the “last price”?
The price at which the last trade on that stock took place.
What is a stock exchange?
A place where buyers and sellers meet to trade. Prices are established according to supply and demand.
What are the 3 Characteristics of a liquid market?
- Frequent sales
- Narrow price spread between bid and ask
- Small price fluctuations from sale to sale
