Chapter 1: Motion Flashcards
What is the difference between a vector and a scalar?
A scalar only has magnitude. A vector has magnitude and direction.
For speed and velocity, which is a vector and which is a scalar?
Speed is a scalar, velocity is a vector
How do you work out acceleration?
Final velocity - Initial velocity over time taken.
What is the unit of acceleration?
Meters per second per second, which is also meters per second squared.
How do you work out acceleration from a distance time graph?
Draw a triangle under the section that you are interested in. Change in y divided by the change in x
How do you calculate distance traveled?
Area under the graph
How do you work out acceleration from mass vs force?
Acceleration = resultant force over mass.
How to work out resultant force?
Larger force - smaller force
