Chapter 1 Midterm Review Flashcards
Order
Living cells are the basis of this complex organization.
Reproduction
Organisms reproduce their own kind
Growth and development
Inherited information in the form of DNA controls the pattern of growth and development of all organisms.
Energy processing
Organisms use chemical energy stored in food to power its own activities and chemical reactions.
Response to the enviroment
All organisms respond to environmental stimuli.
Regulation
Many types of mechanisms regulate an organisms’ internal environment, keeping it within the limits that sustain life.
Evolutionary
Adaptations evolve over many generations as individuals with traits best suited to their environment have greatr reproductive success and pass their traits to offspring.
List the level of hierarchy of living things.
Biosphere, ecosystem, community, population, organism, organ system, organ, tissue, cell, organelle, molecule
Compare and contrast the movement of nutrients and energy within living systems.
Producers: produce the energy that makes up Te ecosystem, they are eaten by the consumer
Consumers: consume the produces and store the energy
Decomposers: decompose the consumers after they die and give the energy backs to the producers.
Justify how evolution explains the unity and diversity of life.
The different mutations and developments in the DNA codes began to produce diverse DNA sequences which began to change the species ever slowly and began to creat a vast variety of species on earth.
