EHR

Extranet
uses a system of connection of private Internet networks outside an organization’s firewall and uses Internet technology to enable collaborative applications to allow external users to access the IS.
Financial applications
software applications that handle patient accounts, budgets, and other financial activities.
Clinical practice guidelines
which provide a detailed, step-by-step guide used by healthcare practitioners to make knowledge-based decisions related to patient care and issued by an authoritative organization such as a medical society
Health informatics
a scientific discipline that is concerned with the cognitive, information-processing, and communication tasks of healthcare practice, education, and research, including the information science and technology to support these tasks
Health information exchange
HIE: exchange of health information electronically between providers and others with the same level of interoperability
inferential statistics
generalizations about a population’s characteristics. TIP: ‘Infer’ generalizations
Information
data that have been manipulated into something meaningful
Information system
IS: an automated system that uses computer hardware and software to record, manipulate, store, recover, and disseminate data
System that receives and processes input and provides output.
Clinical pathways
a tool designed to coordinate multidisciplinary care planning for specific diagnoses and treatments
Intranet
a private information network similar to the Internet but is inside a firewall or security barrier so that the general public cannot gain access
Mainframe computers
large computers that are used to process large amounts of data
Point of care
POC: wireless computers are often seen at the place or location where the physician administers services to the patient
predictive modeling
process used to identify patterns that can be used to predict the odds of a particular outcome based on the observed data
computer on wheels
COW: involves a wireless computer mounted on a mobile cart that can be moved form patient to patient
certified health data analyst
CHDA: Certification that covers data management, data analytics, and data reporting.
