Exemptions to Wearing Seatbelts - Rule 267
A
- Driver Reversing Vehicle
- Passenger in a Police or Emergency Vehicle and either has 2 or more rows of seats. Or a police vehicle having a caged or other secured area designed for carrying passengers.
- Seating position not fitted with a seatbelt and no requirement to
- Person is carrying a medical certificate signed by medical practitioner. The person should not wear a seatbelt due to medical condition. The certificate must be signed, display date of issue, expiry date, not have expired, complying with conditions, no other law stating it does not apply and the person is not exempt if can’t produce immediately.
- Person is carrying out door to door deliveries and required to get in and out of vehicle and not travelling more than 25km/hr.
- They are providing or receiving medical treatment of an urgent and necessary nature.
- A truck or bus that has a sleeper compartment. The two up driver is exempt while occupying that compartment for the purpose of rest.
- Passenger on public bus.

Exemptions to holding a licence - Road Transport Act
A
- Interstate and International visitors
- Driver of a golf or green keeping vehicle
- Driver of a light rail vehicle
- Driver being submitted to a driving test (as an applicant)
- Driver of a vehicle not more than 250kgs un-laden, that is constructed or used solely for the cutting of grass or incidental to the cutting of grass.
- Driver of a vehicle specifically constructed to be used and is solely used for the conveyance of an invalid and not capable of travelling at more than 10km/hr.
- Driver of a pedal cycle to which is attached one or more auxiliary motors having a combined maximum power output not exceeding 200 watts.

Exemptions to Registration - Schedule 1 (Road Transport)

- Vehicle on tow truck
- Vehicle used for work on farms
- Vehicles used on roads or road related areas to a limited extent or primary production.
- Certain trailers used for road markings and other public works.
- Golf and green keeping vehicles used on a road or road related area.
- Vehicle temporary in NSW.
- Vehicle registered under interstate road transport act 1985
- Trailers registered in Victoria
- Vehicles used to fight rural fires
- Police Vehicles
- Lawn mowers - weighing not more than 250kgs.
- Vehicles used by disabled persons and not capable of travelling more than 10km/hr.
- Pedal cycles
- Vehicles being driven to registration and associated places.
- Vehicles that are being inspected

- Registered in another state or Territory and no longer temporarily garaged in NSW
- Registered in another state or territory of which is cancelled or expired
- Not displaying registration label
- No number plate affixed to the vehicle

- Is being towed by a motor vehicle that is registered in Victoria
- Is exempt from registration in Victoria
- Is not used in the course of trade
- Weighs less than 200 kilograms unladen
- Has a manufactured width not exceeding the width of the towing vehicle.
- Is of a length not exceeding 3 metres.
