Advanced Life Support (ALS)
Composed of paramedics who’ve received training in aggressive cardiac life support, pediatric life support, severe trauma and other life-threatening emergency medical conditions.
Appropriate Medical Facility
Hospital with adequate resources to provide care for those who are transported after field treatments by EMR’s
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Composed of EMT’s who have completed trauma care, cardiac and stroke care, CPR, advance first aid, childbirth and basic medication administration
Certification
Someone is being recognized for meeting certain standards to ensure safe and ethical patient care
Defibrillation
Delivering an electric shock to persons chest wall and heart to help establish a normal heart contraction rhythms
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
First medically trained person to arrive on scene
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Person who is trained and certified to provide BLS and noninvasive perhospital medical procedures
Emergency Reponse Communication Center
A way for emergency agencies to receive and dispatch requests for emergency care. Also called public safety answering point
Paramedic
Person trained and certified to provide ALS
Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)
A way for emergency agencies to receive and dispatch requests for emergency care. Also called emergency response communications center
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT)
Perskn who can preform BLS and limited ALS
