W.H.O. definition of Health (1946)
‘Health is a state of complete physical , mental and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.’
Health and wellbeing
The state of a person’s physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual existence, characterised equilibrium in which the individual feels happy, healthy, capable and engaged. (Five dimensions of health (P.E.M.S.S.) and how they feel about their life (wellbeing-H.H.C.E.))
Infirmity
The quality or state of being weak or ill; often associated with old age.
Wellbeing
Combination of the dimensions of health characterised by an individual in which they feel happy, healthy, capable and engaged.
Physical Health and Wellbeing
Relates to the functioning of the body and its systems; includes the physical capacity to perform daily activities or tasks.
Social health and wellbein
the
ability to form meaningful and
satisfying relationships with others
and the ability to manage or adapt
appropriately to different social
situations
Emotional health and wellbeing
the ability to recognise,
understand and effectively manage
and express emotions as well as
the ability to display resilience
mental health and wellbeing
relates to the state of a person’s
mind or brain and the ability to
think and process information.
Spiritual health and wellbeing
relates to ideas, beliefs, values
and ethics that arise in the mind
and conscience of human beings
