Names of the section and regions of the body
cranial cavity
Formed by cranial bones. The space inside of the skull. Cranial= skull
vertebral canal
Formed by vertebral column, contains the spine and spinal chord.
Thoracic cavity
Chest cavity. Starts from the top of the rib cage down to the diaphragm. Thoracic= between chest and abdomen.
contains Pleural and Pericardial cavities.
Pleural cavity
The space between the linings (pleura) of the chest wall and lungs.
Pericardial cavity
The space between the linings of the heart and chest wall
Mediastium
The space between the lungs; contains heart, esophagus, ect…
Abdominopelvic cavity
Cavity from the diaphragm down to the pelvic floor
abdominal cavity
From the diaphragm to the top of the pelvis. Contains stomach, liver, intestines, gallbladder, pancreas, ect…
Pelvic cavity
Contains bladder, internal reproductive organs, and portions of the large intestine.
frontal plane
vertical plane dividing the front from the back
parasagittal plane
vertical plane dividing the left from the right from any point of a horizontal line
transverse plane
Horizontal line, divides the top from the bottom.
oblique plane
any plane dividing the body that is not parallel to a frontal, transverse, or parasagittal plane.
Top right region of the stomach
Right hypochondriac
Top middle region of the stomach
