Drug
Any substance, natural or artificial, that by its chemical nature alter structure or function of a living organism
Illicit Drug
Unlawful to possess or use
Deviant Drug Use
Drug use that is not common within a social group AND that is disapproved of by the majority.
Misuse
Ue of a prescribed drugs in greater amounts than, or for purposes other than, those prescribed by the physician or dentist.
Abuse
Use of a substance (not typically prescribed- but can be) in a manner, amounts, or situation such that the drug use causes problems or greatly increases the chances of problems occurring.
Substance Additiction
Refers to cases in which people have struggled to control their use and have suffered serious, negative consequences - directly related to that use
Drug dependence:
A state in which an individual uses a drug so frequently or consistently that it would be difficult for the person to get along without the use of that drug.
