Chapter 1 Activity definitions Flashcards
what are the three undefined terms? why?
plane, point, line. Because to define them you have to use other words that also need to be defined.
what does collinear mean?
on the same line
what does coplanar mean?
on the same plane
Explain the difference between MS = DG and MS is congruent to DG.
MS is equal to DG shows that two numbers are equal, while MS is congruent to DG shows the congruency between the two figures.
what makes an equilateral polygon?
all of the sides are the same length
what makes an equiangular polygon?
all of the angles are the same degree
what makes a regular polygon?
all of the angles have the same measurement and all of the sides have the same measurement.
how can you tell what the sides of an angle are?
there would be two rays.
what is a vertex of an angle?
the endpoint of the two rays.
when are angles congruent?
if they have equal measures, the same number of degrees.
what is the midpoint of a segment?
the point on the segment that is the same distance from both endpoints.
how do you write line segment AB?
AB wihth a line on top.
How do you write ray BA?
<–A———-B
BA with an arrow line pointing to the right on top.
what is a linear pair?
Angles on the same side of a line segment or line; two adjacent angles that sum up to 180 degrees.
what is a vertical pair?
pairs of angles that share a single vertex but open in opposite directions.
what is the linear pair postulate?
If two angles form a linear pair, then the measures of the angle add up to 180 degrees.
what do supplementary angles sum up to?
180 degrees
what do complementary angles sum up to?
90 degrees
what is the vertical angles theorem?
the vertical angles are formed when two lines intersect are congruent.
