EPA Environmental Protection Agency
EPA registers and regulates environmental disinfectants used on things like tables and floors. Controls emission into the air and water
FDA Food and Drug Administration
The FDA is to promote and protect the public’s health by helping safe and effective products reach the market in a timely manner
A REGULATION
A principle rule or law designed to control or govern behavior. Compliance is mandatory
A STANDARD
A established norm determined by opinion authority research and or theory
AAMI
The primary U.S. organization that develops consensus standard for decontamination disinfection and sterilization practices
OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration)
Regulates occupational exposure to airborne contaminants, occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens and communication or workplace hazards
CDC ( Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
The CDC is not a regulatory agency but it does publish widely respected recommendations and guidelines on such topics and hand hygiene, iso precautions, environmental infection control etc.
The Joint Commision
A independent nonprofit organization that establishes accrediting standards and conducts extensive onsite inspections to evaluate a healthcare facilities performance in areas that affect patient care
Endoscopy
Examining the inside of a persons body using an endoscope
Endoscope
A medical device consisting of a long thin flexible tube which has a light video camera
A fiberscope
Has a light source and an osculatory eyepiece that enables the physician to view the internal organ or tissue
A videoscope
Has a light source, a video processor, a printer, and a monitor to display the internal organ to the physician
