(Emergency Medical Services system) A network of community resources and medical personnel that provides emergency medical care to people who are injured or suddenly fall ill

Paramedic
Someone with more in-depth training than AEMTs and who can perform all of the former’s duties
Scope of Practice
Range of duties and skills that are allowed and expected to be performed when necessary according to the professionals level of training
Standing Orders
Protocols issued by the medical director allowing specific skills to be performed or medications to be administered in certain situations
ABC
Airway; Breathing; Circulation
Levels of EMS Certification
EMR - Emergency medical responder
EMT - Emergency medical technician
AEMT - Advanced emergency medical technician
Paramedic
Indirect Medical Control
A type of medical direction including protocol, education, and quality improvement. Does not speak to physician.
Direct Medical Control
Speaks directly to physician at the emergency scene.
