3 Approaches to IPC
- ) Relational (DYAD) Approach
- ) Developmental Approach
- ) Elemental Approach (model)
1.) Relational Approach (DYAD)
DYAD relationships are always primary.
DYAD consciousness: understand who is a dyadic primacy
DYAD coalition: 2 person relationship formed by others for a gaol (blind date)
2.) Developmental Approach:
A progression from impersonal to personal or intimate:
Impersonal Intimate
|——————————-|
Causes: time, roles, rules, & predictions/messages
3.) Elemental Approach (models)
1.) linear model: one way communication.
Sender ——————-> receiver
2.) Interactional model: message from sender to receiver back to sender.
Sender —————> Receiver
<—————-
Internal feedback: feedback to our selfs.
External feedback: nod, facial expressions, response.
3.) transactional model: shared meaning through sender and receiver.
Transactional model of communication
Cycle:
1.)Exigency is the need to communicate with a 2.) source of an idea. The 3.) encoder (source/encoder) sends a 4.) message through a 5.)channel (verbal or non verbal) to a 6.) receiver who 7.) decodes (receiver/decoder) that message by getting it, understanding it then responding with 8.) feedback back to the 3.) source/encoder
