Aves
The class of birds. Warm-blooded vertebrate animals, two legs, wings, feathers and lay eggs
Animalia
The animal kingdom, the division of life forms that includes all living and extinct animals. The animal kingdom includes invertebrates and vertebrates
Binomial Nomenclature
Linnaeus’s system of naming species, used latin language. Each species has a name made of two words; the first, the genus and second the species.
Chordata
A phylum with four distinctive characteristics: vertebra, nerve cord running down the back side; gill slits(pharynx), and a rear tail
Fungi
Plant kingdom including mold, yeasts, and fungi that get their food by absorption and lack chlorophyll
Invertebrates
Member of animal kingdom with no spine. Ex. Worms and arthropods
Mammalia
Vertebrates that posses mammary glands, have a body that has hair, and a well developed brain
Monera
Kingdom including bacterial organisms that lack a true nucleus in the cell and reproduces by fission
Notochord
A flexible chord of cells in the embryo stage of growth that eventually becomes the vertebra
Osteichthyes
Bony fish, large group of vertebrates animals that live in water and have permanent gills, fins, and scales
Pharyngeal
Area of the pharynx
Placental mammals
Mammals having placenta through which the embryo and fetus get nourishment
Plantea
Plant kingdom, includes multicellular photosynthesizing organisms, higher plants, and multicellular algae
Protista
Kingdom including the single-celled or microscopic animals and single-celled algae
Reptilia
The class that includes turtles, tortoises, terrapins, snakes, pythons, boas, iguanas, lizards, crocodiles, alligators, caiman, and gharials
