Minority status
May be used to identify those who have been or are susceptible to unfair treatment by the dominant culture
Minority
Any group of people who are substantially different from the broader society in political, economic, religious, or racial term
Cultural diversity
Refer to a concept whereby the history, beliefs, behavior, language, traditions, & values of racial &/ or ethnic groups are what make them distinct
Racial diversity
Describes the existence of numerous racial groups with a given society
Acculturation
Refers to the sharing of cultural values that occurs when two cultures come into contact
Integration
Refers to a minority populations movement into mainstream
Cultural assimilation
Is a political response that encourages the minority demographic to adopt the customs, values, & language of the dominant culture in order to receive the benefits of social integration
Locus of control
Term that describes a persons orientation to the work and his/ her ability to effectively make changes or take action
American exceptionalism
US holds a special position among nations because of its unique status as the first modern democracy
